Bass Rock, heron at dawn. ( Pancreatic Cancer Enhanced Recovery Programme )
This image, shot on the beach at North Berwick, was never planned. I was photographing a set of newly constructed foot bridges on nearby North Berwick golf course, which had been donated to the club.
It was dawn and I was there to catch the rising sun, anticipating a couple of the bridges might look good in the early morning light. This achieved, I decided to walk down onto the beach nearby. Once there, I simply couldn't believe the quality of light, and as I walked along the sands things just got better. A heron settled in front of me, intent on catching his breakfast. Fishing boats appeared, accompanied by flocks of seagulls. Meanwhile the colour in the sky became more and more vibrant and the Bass Rock, with its lighthouse, was perfectly silhouetted.
One of the lovely things about working as a photographer, is that although you may be working for a client, you can often manage to grab a personal picture or two for yourself.
